The Lord of the Rings will all the time maintain a spot of honor in Magic: The Gathering. At a time when Universes Past crossover playing cards had been confined to restricted Secret Lair drops like The Strolling Lifeless, or preconstructed Commander decks like Warhammer 40K, The Lord of the Rings launched the first-ever tentpole Universed Past enlargement with Tales of Center-Earth in 2023.
Now, Tolkien’s excessive fantasy world is returning to Wizards of The Coast’s tenured buying and selling card recreation in August with The Hobbit, the prequel story to the LOTR trilogy. After seeing a handful of playing cards at a pre-MagicCon Las Vegas press preview earlier this week, we suspect Magic’s return to Center-Earth can be as impactful as the primary one.
(NOTE: There could also be some playing cards revealed through the Preview Panel that weren’t proven to press through the press preview.)
